about

How the other half lives. Early on in the writing process, I discovered that most of the songs on Red Horses were written from the perspective of the same person. I wanted to give a voice to the other side. The narrator here is an actor at an acting camp. Through her eyes, we see a more nuanced and honest depiction of our singer - he’s not always right.

lyrics

I was a bombshell, I was standing on the edge of the stage,
I not once thought of you - is that offensive to say?
I went out for a break to break in my shoes
and I got chocolate hornets, but they weren’t for you.

Just then a time came to mind we made a definite pact -
you would punish your ghosts while I went to camp.
Now you write verses in the back of a van,
you just wanted to play and in that way we’re the same.

I’m trying to sleep on it, but sometimes it wakes me up.
I’m trying not to dream about it, but sometimes I do.

So you chase your horizons and I will chase mine,
and if we meet at The Unicorn, that will be fine.
I’ll get orchestra seats for you and your family,
and after the show you can tell them I was an animal.

I’m trying to sleep on it, but sometimes it wakes me up.
I’m trying not to dream about it, but sometimes I do.

I’m trying to sleep on it, but sometimes it wakes me up.
I’m trying not to dream about it, but sometimes I do.
